Department Introduction:
The roots of Natural Medicine go back thousands of years, drawing on the healing wisdom of many cultures including Greek (Unani., Hippocratic), Arabian, Egyptian, Indian (Ayurvedic), Chinese, European (monastic medicine). With the age of scientific inquiry, many older time-tested healing and health maintenance methods were discarded at a rapid rate as doctors began treating diseases almost solely with Surgery and Drugs.
The Natural Medicine practice has experienced resurgence in the past two decades as the Health- conscious public has started to opt for valuable, empirically proven natural therapies.
Since the late 1970s the trend of Natural Medicine colleges in the west is on the rise, the rest of the world is also following the lead. This growth is in direct response to the changing needs of our society, as the public is demanding a medical model in which the individual plays a more active role in her or his health and healing process and which is more patient centered and holistic.
Health and disease are conditions of the whole organism, involving a complex interaction of physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social factors. Eastern Medicine treats a person holistically by taking all of these factors into account. The harmonious functioning of all aspects of the individual is essential for recovery and prevention of disease, and requires a personalized and comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment.
The ultimate goal of Eastern Medicine is prevention. This is accomplished through education and promotion of lifestyle habits that foster good health. The physician assesses risk factors and hereditary susceptibility to disease and makes appropriate interventions to avoid further harm to the patient. The emphasis is on building health and preventing diseases rather than on fighting disease.
Eastern Medicine Practitioners are primary care physician duly qualified for diagnostic and therapeutic skills like patient counseling, differential & provisional diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. They diagnose and treat patients using a system of practice that not only secures all physiological functions but treats all pathologic conditions based on natural laws governing the body and prescribes natural medicines (approved by DRAP) developed through all the modern scientific and technological facilities.
The objective behind this program is to prepare batches of knowledgeable and committed Tabibs who could become agents of change by fulfilling health care needs of the masses based upon centuries old wisdom and expression of Tibb.
